The Trial trailer: Kajol returns to the courtroom as her husband is arrested in sex and corruption scandal

Bollywood star Kajol is all set to make her digital debut with The Trial – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka. The Suparn Varma-helmed web show is the Indian adaptation of The Good Wife, which starred Julianna Margulies in the lead role. The trailer of the show dropped on Monday, giving a glimpse of the intriguing and intense drama that awaits the audience.

The trailer opens with additional judge Rajeev Sengupta getting arrested for accepting sexual favours as bribe. His wife Noyonika (Kajol) and two daughters are left open to public scrutiny and picking up the pieces. Noyonika returns to work as a lawyer to get her life back on track. Aiding her is his college friend (Alyy Khan). When her husband’s lawyers bow out, he comes to her to represent him.

Disney Plus Hotstar had recently released a motion poster of the show with Kajol dressed in a lawyer’s robes. As a kickstart to the promotions, the actor had even archived all her social media posts, writing that she’s taking a break from the platform. She posted a picture with the text, “Facing one of the toughest trials of my life.”

In an earlier statement, Kajol spoke about joining the league of B-town stars stepping into the web space. She said, “Being an avid fan of digital series, the concept has always been intriguing. And, after following cool shows like Rudra and Aarya, I knew there was no other platform than Disney+ Hotstar to start my series journey.”

The Good Wife started airing in the US in 2009 and went on for seven seasons. The show followed a woman named Alicia Florrick whose politician husband gets caught in a sex scandal while she has to stand by him, whilst also restarting her career as a lawyer. The legal drama had an overarching storyline but also had cases it solved on an episodic basis.

The Trial – Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka also stars Jisshu Sengupta, Sheeba Chaddha, Kubbra Sait, Alyy Khan among others. The show will stream Disney+ Hotstar.
