The Greatest Rivalry: Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, Shoaib Akhtar, Javed Miandad open up on India-Pak cricketing rivalry in Netflix documentary

One of the oldest and most intense rivalries in cricket is undoubtedly the one between Indian and Pakistan, which is entrenched in the long-standing history between both countries. While the cricket has always been fiercely contested, the off-ground activities between the two countries in the political front has resulted in a legacy that is more than just about the cricket. Now, Netflix is bringing a documentary that aims to understand this rivalry, and underscore the impact of the same in the psyche of the biggest cricketing nations in the world. Titled The Greatest Rivalry: India vs Pakistan, the documentary will premiere on Netflix on February 7.

According to a statement from the streamer, The Greatest Rivalry is set to explore the drama, passion, and high-stakes intensity of this rivalry on the home soil of both nations. Directed by Chandradev Bhagat and Stewart Sugg, The Greatest Rivalry, would feature interviews of legends of the game like Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, Shoaib Akhtar, Inzamam Ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, Javed Miandad, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Sharing the official poster, Netflix wrote, “Two nations. One epic Rivalry. 1.6 Billion prayers. Come witness the thrill of a legacy like no other in The Greatest Rivalry: India vs Pakistan, arriving on 7th February, only on Netflix.” In the poster, we see Sachin Tendulkar and Sehwag walking on to the middle as the Pakistan team are in a huddle.

Incidentally, Indian and Pakistan cricket teams haven’t played a bilateral series in over a decade. They last clashed in a tournament when Pakistan visited India in 2012-13. Since then, they have only played together in ICC multi-team events like World Cup, Asia Cup, and Champions Trophy. Even now, in the upcoming Champions Trophy to be conducted in Pakistan, India would be playing its matches in a neutral venue in Dubai.
