The trailer of Disney Plus Hotstar’s upcoming series, School of Lies dropped on Wednesday, and from the first look, you can tell the series will not disappoint. It is said to be based on true events and circles around a missing schoolboy. The series is headlined by an ensemble cast including actors Nimrat Kaur, Aamir Bashir, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, Sonali Kulkarni and Jitendra Joshi.
The trailer opens with Bashir’s character informing that a kid named Shakti Salgaonkar has been absent from his classes and nobody in his school has seen him in the longest time. The mystery thickens as everybody, including Shakti’s classmates, his seniors, the school’s staff and even his guardian, tell one lie after another. Nimrat Kaur plays a school counsellor who can get the school kids to open up about what transpired regarding Shakti’s disappearance.
Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, whom we have seen play some strong characters in the past (Soni and Thappad), once again looks convincing in the role of the mother of the missing child.
School of Lies is created by Ishani Banerjee and Avinash Arun Dhaware, and is directed by Avinash Arun Dhaware. The director said the series is about a “child’s loneliness, disconnect and repression.” He added, “Every child, in a boarding school or otherwise, will go through these phases at some point or the other. In today’s world, children are much more sensitive and exposed. School of Lies is a story of the times we live in, and an attempt to look with empathy at all the forces within us that may liberate or destroy us.”
For Nimrat Kaur, working on the School of Lies was an enlightening experience. She said in a statement, “With the shoot of School of Lies, I learnt about the layered complexities of children and how they can reveal a new side to them every step of the way. This unique series, inspired by real life events, brings forth mind-bogglingly unpredictable occurrences behind the closed gates of a fictional boarding school.”
The official logline of School of Lies read, “What happens when the safest place for a child is no longer safe enough?”
