The trailer for Citadel: Honey Bunny, starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan, has been released. Directed by Raj and DK, the show is a spin-off of the American spy action series Citadel, which starred Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden. Citadel: Honey Bunny follows Varun and Samantha as they disguise their appearances and embark on a globetrotting mission. The series also features Kay Kay Menon, Saqib Saleem, and Sikandar Kher in pivotal roles.
The trailer begins with Varun’s character recruiting Samantha’s character, who is also his girlfriend, for a spy agency that he is part of. They both work in the film industry, and Honey also has a daughter called Nadia, who may or may not be Priyanka’s character from the original Citadel. He states, “We fight so there is peace,” as the trailer shows him training her for combat. The twist arises when Kay Kay Menon’s overlord character enters the scene, discussing a system capable of tracking anyone; however, the device poses a significant threat if it falls into the wrong hands. Tensions escalate as Varun and Samantha become enemies when she disagrees with his decision. The trailer promises high-octane stunts, car chases, hand-to-hand combat, and plenty of action, all filtered through Raj and DK’s trademark quirky lens.
The original Citadel, led by Priyanka Chopra, was released in 2023 and received mixed reviews. Despite this, the creators had already set into motion grand plans for multiple spin-offs set in different countries, including India, Spain, Italy, and Mexico, with the original series serving as a ‘mothership’ show. Citadel is executive produced and creatively spearheaded by the Russo Brothers, best known for their work on the Avengers films. They are also executive producers on Citadel: Honey Bunny, collaborating with Raj and DK.
Previously, at the teaser launch event, Raj and DK spoke about the Russo Brothers’ involvement and how they preserved their own creative voice throughout the project. “We only made what we wrote, what we directed, what we produced,” they shared, adding, “We were very excited when we were offered to direct Citadel India. We met Russo Brothers in the US. It was like a big conference, where we had episodes laid out and they actually did their reading. They were very gracious and extremely collaborative and free.”
Festive offer
Meanwhile, the Italian spin-off, titled Citadel: Diana, was released on October 9. The Raj and DK-led series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 7. Priyanka Chopra, who stars in the original Citadel, has already started shooting for Citadel 2 and recently shared some behind-the-scenes moments from the set.
