In the recent episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, the team of Baby John—Varun Dhawan, Atlee, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Keerthy Suresh—graced the set to promote their film. Kapil Sharma, known for his humorous digs, found himself at the center of controversy once again. This time, his remarks on director Atlee’s appearance did not sit well with many viewers.

Kapil’s light-hearted banter turned sour when he asked Atlee if any star had ever failed to recognize him due to his appearance. Atlee responded with grace, saying, “Sir, in a way I understood your question. I’ll try to answer. I am actually very thankful to AR Murugadoss sir because he produced my first film. He asked for the script, but he didn’t see how I am looking and whether I am capable of it or not, but he loved my narration.”

Further emphasizing his point, Atlee added, “I think the world should see that. By appearance, we should not judge, by heart you should judge.” His response earned applause from Archana Puran Singh and Kapil Sharma, but the damage was done. Many felt the joke was unnecessary and in poor taste.

Social media platforms, especially X (formerly Twitter), have been abuzz with criticism. One user commented, “Kapil Sharma only body shames and has uncleji jokes. Not funny at all. The show has run its course and is such a drag now.” Such reactions reflect growing dissatisfaction with Kapil’s humor.

While Atlee handled the situation with dignity, the comedian’s remarks have fueled ongoing debates about his style of humor. Many argue that Kapil should reconsider his jokes, especially those targeting appearances.

The Great Indian Kapil Show, which thrives on celebrity antics and light comedy, has now found itself facing backlash, with calls for more sensitivity in its content. Fans hope the show will evolve and avoid such controversies in the future.
