August promises an array of options and stars on OTT platforms. There is something to keep everyone entertained throughout the month. There’s Guns & Gulaabs, Taali and Heart of Stone (all on Netflix) and Made in Heaven returns for a second season on Amazon Prime Video. It would be thrilling to watch stars like Gal Gadot, Sushmita Sen, Alia Bhatt, Rajkummar Rao and Kalki Koechlin showcase their talent on the small screen.

Choona has Jimmy Sheirgill playing a powerful politician Shukla, who has a knack for astrology as well. A gang of commoners is planning to loot Rs 800 crore from Shukla to give him “emotional pain”. Now, if they will succeed in doing so, given the tight security around Shukla, makes for the premise of the series. It also stars Chandan Roy, Aashim Gulati, Namit Das, Gyanendra Tripathi, Atul Srivastava, Monika Panwar, and Niharika Lyra Dutt.
Netflix’s true-crime docuseries The Hunt for Veerapan gives a peek into the life of one of the most feared criminals in the country. The series, helmed by debutant Selvamani Selvaraj and produced by Apoorva Bakshi, includes firsthand accounts from people who were close to Veerappan and those who tirelessly sought to capture him. Shot in Tamil and English, the docu-series will also be available in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam.
Set in a small town in Odisha, The Jengaburu Curse deals with the repercussions of the ruthless use of nature by human beings. It revolves around London-based financial analyst Priya Das, who has to return to her hometown after her father goes missing. As she starts to look for her father, she comes across “unlikely connection between the indigenous Bondia tribe and the mining state of Odisha”. The series stars Faria Abdullah, Nasser, Makarand Deshpande, Sudev Nair, Deipak Sampat, and Hitesh Dave in pivotal roles.
Sarath Kumar and Ashok Selvan starrer Por Thozhil released in theatres in June and will now be available to watch on SonyLIV. Upon its release in theatres, the film received a thunderous response from the audience. Indianexpress.com’s Kirubhakar wrote in his review of the film, “Despite following all the tropes of a buddy cop movie, debutant Vignesh Raja has come up with an enjoyable genre film that manages to hold your attention throughout.”
Alia Bhatt’s much-awaited Hollywood debut project, Heart of Stone, will start streaming on Netflix from this month. Alia plays the antagonist in the film, which also stars Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan in pivotal roles. Directed by Tom Harper, the movie has Gadot as Rachel Stone, a member of the Charter. We are told the secret agency takes over ‘when governments fail’. The trailer of the film has promised some well-choreographed action sequences.
One of Amazon Prime Video’s most popular shows, Made In Heaven is finally returning with its much-awaited second season. It promises to be as glamorous and dramatic as its predecessor, and brings back Tara Khanna (Sobhita Dhulipala) and Karan Mehra (Arjun Mathur) with their wedding planning business. Besides the lead cast of Sobhita, Arjun, Mona Singh, and Shashank Arora, the show will star Mrunal Thakur, Radhika Apte and Shibani Dandekar, Dia Mirza, Sameer Soni and Sanjay Kapoor in guest appearances. The acclaimed series is created by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti.
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri is bringing out all the research he did for his 2022 film The Kashmir Files, which highlighted the plight of Kashmiri pundits. As per the filmmaker, the non-fiction series will present the “vulgar truth of Kashmir genocide of Hindus”.
