Taali teaser: Sushmita Sen plays transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in latest web series.

Actor and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is all set to essay the role of popular transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in the upcoming show titled Taali. The makers released the teaser of the show on Saturday.

The teaser highlights Shreegauri Sawant’s inspiring journey, and Sushmita Sen’s portrayal in the teaser appears strong. From portraying Shreegauri’s college days to her transition and significant contributions to revolutionising the transgender movement in India, Sushmita is seen in a fierce and powerful avatar. The official synopsis read, “Gaali se Taali tak ke safar ki yeh kahaani. Presenting the story of Shreegauri Sawant’s fight for India’s third gender.”

Fans on the internet loved the teaser and appreciated Sushmita’s performance. One of the fans said, “Sushmita Sen shines in this teaser, can’t wait for more.” Another wrote, “This movie seems like a real gem! Can’t wait to watch!”

Shreegauri, born as Ganesh and raised in Pune, is a transgender activist from Mumbai. She was one of the petitioners in the NALSA case filed in 2013, and her struggle led to the Supreme Court’s recognition of transgender individuals as the third gender in 2014.

Talking about her role, Sushmita told ANI, “A story of struggle, resilience, and indomitable power, that’s Shreegauri Sawant for you! Nothing makes me more proud and grateful than to bring this journey that has been rife with challenges, only to witness a revolution! This one is special for reasons multifold, and I’m really excited to associate with Viacom18 for this one. This is just the beginning, stay tuned for what’s in store.”

The show is created by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar and is helmed by Ravi Jadhav. Taali is written by Kshitij Patwardhan and is produced by Arjun Singgh Baran, Kartk D Nishandar and Afeefa Nadiadwala.
