Vijay Varma is currently dominating the scene. The actor, who kickstarted his winning streak this year with the immensely praised crime thriller web series Dahaad and made an intriguing appearance in the anthology film Lust Stories 2, is now preparing for his upcoming crime drama series Kaalkoot.
Helmed by Sumit Saxena, who co-scripted the project along with Arunabh Kumar, Kaalkoot stars Shweta Tripathi, Seema Biswas, Yashpal Sharma, Gopal Dutt, and Suzanna Mukherjee in pivotal roles apart from Varma. The series will premiere on JioCinema on July 27.
Kaalkoot’s trailer, which dropped a few hours ago, starts off by portraying Sub-Inspector (SI) Ravishankar Tripathi grappling with his sanity while fulfilling his duties as a cop. Through a sequence of consecutive shots, the trailer showcases both the SI’s struggles and some gruesome crimes, accompanied by Ravishankar’s voice in the background as he recites the resignation letter he sent to his superior officer.
As the trailer unfolds, we witness Ravishankar taking on the task of investigating an acid attack case, which ignites his determination. The tagline of the series, “A man of the system, against the system,” highlights his character. The trailer effectively presents that the film deals with a delicate and sensitive subject matter, while also incorporating elements of humour.
“An intense crime series set against the backdrop of a horrifying acid attack case, the story revolves around Ravi Tripathi, a sub-inspector in the town of Thana Sarsi. Initially lacking interest in his job, Ravi’s perspective changes when he discovers that the victim of the brutal attack, Parul, is the same girl his mother wanted him to marry. Driven by a newfound purpose, Ravi takes it upon himself to investigate the crime and find the person responsible. Along the way, he confronts gender biases, toxic masculinity, and societal expectations that hinder his pursuit of justice,” a statement from the makers said.
“Kaalkoot is a coming-of-age story of Ravi, the character I portray, and I believe it will undoubtedly be a transformative experience for anyone who watches it. The show digs deep into our souls, challenging how we see ourselves and revealing the hidden sides of humanity, the parts we often overlook. I am sure that it will leave viewers to reflect and raise important questions and spark meaningful dialogue,” actor Vijay Varma said in a statement.
