Ever since the trailer of Bigg Boss OTT 2 dropped, fans were excited to watch ‘One Piece’ Manisha Rani. And true to her nickname, the social media star has managed to impress everyone inside and outside the house with her positivity, wit and maturity. While her chemistry with Jad Hadid has been in the spotlight, her Bihari dialect and funny one-liners manage to always bring a smile to people’s faces.
Before entering the Salman Khan-hosted show, Manisha told indianexpress.com how she is ‘patakha, dhamaka and a paisa vasool performer’. She also shared Bigg Boss has been a dream for her ever since she saw commoner Manveer Gurjar taking home the trophy in season 10. “I was not popular on social media then but as I saw his journey, I realised this is where I want to be. The platform can give wings to so many dreams. I also realised that I am suited for a show like this as I can spread happiness and joy, and also entertain people.”
Talking about her journey, Manisha Rani said that she wanted to be a ‘heroine’ and be ‘famous’ ever since she was a child. However, coming from a small town she had no means to learn dance or acting. “In 2015, I somehow managed to audition for DID and the video went viral. I then started an account on TikTok, where I first tasted success. While initially, I would lip sync dialogues or dance on film songs, I once said a funny dialogue in my own voice. That video garnered a million views and so many celebrities also used it in their videos. That’s how I became viral and it also gave birth to my career as a content creator. I did a Bhojpuri project in between and a few events and now I am a full-time social media influencer.”
But the journey has not been an easy as Manisha shared that she wasn’t allowed to dance by her family. Wanting to prove herself, she ran away from home to Kolkata and worked as a background dancer. She would wait at tables for eight hours for a meager salary of Rs 500. She shared that today success and fame may look like a dream but she always had faith in herself. “I know they were big dreams and no one believed in me. But I knew, if I work hard, I will manage to achieve them, and I was right. Even now, I want to do a lot and Bigg Boss is just one of the stepping stones for me.”
Sharing her wish list of work she wants to do after the show, Manisha smiled to say, “I want to do a film with Salman Khan, Ekta Kapoor’s serial and also be on The Kapil Sharma Show. I have worked hard to come this far, and like anyone I want to do bigger and better in life. Honestly, after seeing me on Bigg Boss OTT 2, I am sure people would be lining up to sign me.”
Manisha Rani also opened up about the negativity and trolling she faces online. She added that fortunately people love her dialect and give her love for the same. “Everyone relates to my Bihari style and gives me a lot of love for my humour. As for trolling, every time I wear short dresses, people go berserk, That’s when they get ugly. But I have always been clear that if my family has no issues with my clothes, or what I do, who are you to judge? Honestly, sometimes when the comments are too cheap, I ask my elder sister if I exposed too much. She always tells me I look good and then I don’t give a damn,” she said.
While her family showed full faith in her participation, they did advise her to fight for herself. “Sabne bola tum jaanti nahi tum kya cheez ho. Jeet ke hi aaogi (everyone told me I had the potential to win). All they were worried about was that I have a soft heart and cannot fight or insult people. Given its a competition, many would try to put me down, I just hope I can give back to them. Otherwise, I am strong and will have a lot of fun inside.”
